Visit Chapin Memorial Library and complete a library card application. You will need valid photo identification and proof of your current address.
There is no minimum age for getting a library card. For those under 18, a parent or legal guardian can sign the application in person with proof of current address and picture identification to obtain a library card for their child.
FREE Library Cards
Free Chapin Memorial Library cards are available to the following:
- City of Myrtle Beach residents
- United States Active Military/Veterans (individuals) with Military/Veteran ID or DD214
- City of Myrtle Beach employees
- Horry County residents
- Palmetto Overdrive Consortium participating counties – Darlington, Dillon, Georgetown, Marion, Marlboro & Sumter Counties.

Examples of acceptable photo identification:
- Driver’s license or DMV identification
- Passport
- School identification
- Employee identification
Examples of acceptable proof of address:
- Driver’s license or DMV identification
- Paid property tax receipt or vehicle registration
- Utility Bill (ex. Water, cable, electric, or gas)
- Bank statement postmarked or official copy from bank
Non-Residents
Non-residents who do not meet any of the above criteria for a free library have the option of purchasing one. A library card application and photo identification are required.
- 90-day card: Membership fee is $8.00 for first/primary card holder, $2.00 per additional family member.
- 1-year card: Membership fee is $20.00 for first/primary card holder, $8.00 per additional family member.
Guest Computer Access
Guests needing only computer access can register at the Customer Services Desk for a FREE Computer Access Card. The card is valid for 6 months and one, 2-hour session per day (subject to change). No library materials may be checked out on this card.
There is a $2.00 fee to replace any lost card.
